 Dr Ellen Strahlman,
Chief Medical Officer GlaxoSmithKline, Belgium Ellen Strahlman, MD, MHSc, is a senior executive with 18 years of international experience in the healthcare industry (biopharmaceuticals, medical devices, public health). She is currently Senior Vice President and the Chief Medical Officer for GlaxoSmithKline, PLC, where her broad span of responsibilities include:
*Primary responsibility for all global medical, regulatory, safety and medical advocacy and access policy functions for GSK
*Directly accountable to the Chairman of the Board for all matters of patient safety, general medical governance, ethics and integrity, medical information, and investigation involving human subjects relating to any GSK products (pharmaceutical, biologicals and consumer healthcare medicinal products) in development or on the market.
*Senior Medical Advisor to Andrew Witty�s Corporate Executive Team
*Chairman of the GSK Global Safety Board, Medical Governance Executive Board, Physicians Advisory Board
*Key member of GSK�s Senior Management Committees Bodies, including the Product Management Board, Oncology Review Board, Biopharmaceuticals Investment Board, Scientific Advisory Board, Technology Investment Board, R&D Executive Committee, Global Health Forum
Since 1991, Dr Strahlman has been responsible for developing and commercializing products in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry whose revenues exceeded 4 billion USD. In addition, she has experience in multi-million dollar licensing deals, merger and acquisition; transactions and restructuring and integration activities. Well-versed in public relations and government affairs, she has served as an official corporate liaison and spokesperson to the press, media and government agencies on a variety of medically related issues. As a spokesperson for industry and biotechnology, she has addressed issues of world health, corporate social responsibility in the pharmaceutical sector and working for vertically-integrated health care systems solutions. Prior to joining industry, and throughout her career, she has been a champion and spokesperson for public health and world heath issues, most notably in the areas of HIV and infectious blinding eye diseases (trachoma, onchocerciasis). Ellen is a graduate of Harvard University (Biochemical Sciences and Applied Mathematics) and obtained her medical degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She has medical qualifications in general surgery (Johns Hopkins) and ophthalmology (the Wilmer Institute, Johns Hopkins).
